SEN
I am writing as the parent of Zubeen Onirban Hasan, originally a Playgroup student (Minions ID-22) but currently enrolled under the SEN department.
He joined Frobel in August 2022 and by mid September we were aware of some of his sensory issues due to which he was not able to participate in a regular classroom. Under your excellent guidance (also that of Dr. Amrapali), Zubeen started his OT journey from October 2022 and every day after that has been nothing but a learning experience for us. Along with the SEN department initiatives, we took our own measures at home (did our own research, planned his playtimes, minimised his screen time, spoke more to him, tried to follow Dr. Amrapali’s OT protocol etc)
The past couple of months has been stressful but equally fulfilling as we saw Zubeen Onirban improve remarkably within just 3 months of undergoing OT (the first entire month he cried and another month we lost to his sickness and a family medical emergency)
Some of our observations include:
- He doesn’t hit/bite children any more. He does get very excited seeing babies. He wants to cuddle with kids of different age groups.
- Previously he never could tolerate any child crying around him. Alhamdulillah now he curiously looks and tries to find out why kids cry.
- He has amazing eye contact right now and responds perfectly when we call his name.
- He did not have sitting behavior previously and also could hardly understand instructions. Alhamdulillah now understands our instructions (some simple, some complex) and 80 percent of the time does what he was asked to.
- He says his own name, his parents name and his uncle and grandparents name beautifully now, when asked.
- He can now communicate with his relatives over video calls.
- He daily has his own breakfast on his own.
- He is now solving puzzles and has finally understood the concept of pretend plays.
- He is more fluent in English than Bangla. He has a wide vocabulary now and tries to connect words, phrases, sentences to different real life situations.
- He is obsessed with academic toys, he can spend hours with me if I play with puzzles/numbers/alphabets.
- He now imitates us.
- He had issues with slides and swings previously. Not anymore !
- He easily identifies us in group pictures and even corrects me if I say the wrong name.
I am so glad to have found Frobel in our journey and couldn’t have asked for a better institution.
